[So Mun got the role of Queen Of Hearts in her school’s spring play.
She’s very excited]
As Disney itself already said, Gothel’s dress is from the beginning of the Renaissance, which means she was born between the 14th and 15th century (1301-1401).
However, there’s a line in the “Mother Knows Best” song that we all know and find it pretty funny, where Gothel simply says “the plague”. However, the Plague she is talking about (aka the Black Death) only lasted from 1347-1351.
(In this analysis I will only consider the Black Death because of the years Disney confirmed that Gothel was possibly born plus the massive amount of deaths, that being the period where more people were killed by the disease. The Plague in general did not leave Europe completely, coming and going, remaining until the 17th century.)
Now, considering that Gothel remained with the same dress since she reached adulthood (that was 16 years old back then), and eliminating the years after 1351, it’d be possible to say she was born on 1347. But, if she was indeed born in the very begging of the Black Death, she’d be only 4 by the end of it, not being able to remember so vividly to the point where she uses that to scare Rapunzel in “Mother Knows Best”.
Scientifically speaking, we humans have the ability to memorize events that way when we reach puberty (aka 11-13 years old). Still, after so long, to remember something like this would take more than that. Gothel should probably be, at least, 16/17 when it all started.
So, taking 16 years from 1347, Gothel was more likely born in 1331. That way she would begin her search for the flower right after the Black Death kicked in. Also meaning that, if she lived nowadays, she’d be 682 years old.
[Whoooaaaa wait. Who are you? I swear this is very nice and kind and.. I think you may have read my mind. Like honestly. I reblogged something on one of my other accounts saying how I feel a little left out and stuff, and then I get this message oh my gosh. You need to come off anon.]
Belle slipped the eggs and bacon on to the plate, when she heard her mother enter the dining room. She had the table all set and ready like usual. Belle had always loved cooking and since her mother didn’t seem to enjoy it as much she usually found herself cooking most of their meals. Belle grabbed the two plates and headed out of the kitchen, placing them down on the table. “Good morning Mother.” Belle said with a smile. “Coffee?”
Gothel put her hand on her head before glaring through her fingers at Belle. “Of course I want coffee. What else am I suppose to eat my breakfast with?” She moved her hand down to grab her plate. She pulled it over until it was right in front of her. She picked up a fork before poking the eggs. She stabbed an egg and bit some of it off. “This is better than usual..” She looked over at Belle. “What did you do different?”
"Yes, Eugene is fine." Rapunzel replied, not liking what Gothel’s tone was implying. "He’s adjusted to our new life well."
"Sure he is." Gothel didn’t believe that. Once a thief, always a thief. It wouldn’t matter if he lived in that castle for ten years, he would still be a thief. And thieves can only last so long before they have to steal something again. "And I’m guessing your parents approve of that thief sleeping in the castle?"
And you think I care….?
Rapunzel smiled, albeit a rather nervous smile, “Thank you!” Her mind was racing. Was Gothel still hanging around because she was bitter? Had she truly changed her ways?
Gothel smiled. She had perfected her fake sincere smile. She pulled Rapunzel into her arms. “Won’t you let me help you during the rest of your pregnancy? I only want to help you.”
